Replacing license plate light bulbs Fig. 338 License plate lights in the rear hatch. Fig. 339 License plate light: Replacing light bulb. ¤ Please first read and note the introductory information and heed the WARNINGS The following instructions only apply to vehicles with halogen bulbs. You cannot replace the LEDs in LED license plate lights. Contact your authorized Volkswagen dealer or authorized Volkswagen Service Facility for assistance. Please carry out each step only in the order specified: 1. Please review and follow the checklist 2. Carefully insert the flat blade of the screwdriver from the vehicle tool kit in the direction of the arrow into the slot in the license plate light ⇒ fig. 338. 3. Pull out the license plate lamp out slightly. 4. Pull the burned out light bulb out in the direction of the arrow and replace with a new bulb of the same type ⇒ fig. 339. 5. Carefully insert the license plate lamp assembly into the opening of the bumper. Make sure the ends of the license plate light assembly are turned the right way. 6. Press the license plate lamp assembly into the bumper until it audibly latches.
