214 Driving systems PARKTRONIC Important safety notes PARKTRONICisanelectronic parking aid with ultrasonic sensors. It monitors the area around your vehicle using six sensors in the front bumperandsixsensorsintherear bumper. PARKTRONICindicates visually and audibly the parkingdistance between your vehicle and an object. PARKTRONICisonlyanaid.It is not a replace- andmentfor your attention to your immediate sur- roundings. You are always responsible for safe:Sensorsinthefrontbumper,left-hand side maneuvering, parking and exiting a parking(example) space. When maneuvering, parking or pulling ivingoutofaparkingspace,makesurethatthereare r nopersons, animals or objects in the area in D which you are maneuvering. !Whenparking,payparticularattention to objects above or below the sensors, such as flower pots or trailer drawbars. PARKTRONIC doesnotdetectsuchobjectswhentheyarein the immediate vicinity of the vehicle. You could damage the vehicle or the objects. The sensors may not detect snow and other objects that absorb ultrasonic waves. Ultrasonic sources such as an automatic car wash, the compressed-air brakes on a truck orapneumaticdrillcouldcausePARKTRONIC to malfunction. PARKTRONICmaynotfunctioncorrectly on uneven terrain. PARKTRONICisactivated automatically when you: Rswitchontheignition Rshift the transmission to position D, R or N PARKTRONICisdeactivated at speeds above 11mph(18km/h).Itisreactivated at lowerThesensorsmustbefreefromdirt,iceorslush. speeds.
