Airbag System Restraints
Side Airbag Sensors
• Two side airbag sensors are installed to each side of the vehicle, one at the base of the
B-pillar and one near the rear wheelhouse.
• Side airbag sensor No. 1 and No. 2 are different part numbers, so are not
interchangeable.
• The sensor initialisation procedure is the same as that for the Mazda3 (BK) (turn ignition
switch to ON and confirm that the airbag warning light illuminates for approximately six
seconds, then goes out. During this time the SAS control module learns the ID of the
new sensor).
NOTE: If the initialisation procedure is not carried out correctly the side airbag sensor will
have to be replaced with a new one.
