ce Coolant Do not add coolant to the cooling system when the engine is hot. Escaping coolant At a glan can cause burns.< Coolant is composed of equal parts water and a coolant additive. Not all commercially available additives are suitable for your BMW. Ask your ls BMW center for suitable additives. o r t Only use suitable additives, otherwise n engine damage may result. The additives Co present a health hazard; observe the instruc- tions on the containers.< ps Comply with the appropriate environ- mental protection regulations when dis- g ti posing of coolant additives.< n ivi Checking coolant level Dr 1.Do not open the hood until the engine has cooled down. 2.Turn the cap of the expansion tank counter- clockwise to allow any accumulated pres- sure to escape, then continue turning to Navigation open. t 3.The coolant level is correct when the upper n end of the float rod is at the same height as nme the upper edge of the filler neck, also refer ai to the drawing next to the filler neck. t r Ente ns io icat un mm Co 4.If the coolant is low, slowly add coolant up to the specified level – do not overfill. 5.Turn the cap until there is an audible click. lity 6.Have the reason for the coolant loss elimi- bi nated as soon as possible. o M nce 215 Refere Online Edition for Part no. 01 41 2 600 738 - © 08/08 BMW AG
