198 Driver assistance systems Switching off adaptive cruise control (ACC) temporarily in certain situations The adaptive cruise control (ACC) should be switched off in the following sit- uations due to the system's limitations ⇒ : ● When changing lanes, on tight bends, at roundabouts, in the accelera- tion and deceleration lanes on motorways or in road work stretches to pre- vent involuntary acceleration to reach the stored speed. ● When going through a tunnel, as its operation might be affected. ● On roads with several lanes when other vehicles are driving more slowly in the overtaking lane. In this case, vehicles driving more slowly in the other lanes would be overtaken on the right. ● In heavy rain, snow or thick mist, as it might not detect the vehicle ahead or in certain circumstances it might not detect the vehicle altogether. WARNING If the adaptive cruise control is not switched off in the aforementioned situations, accidents and serious injuries may be caused. ● The ACC should always be switched off in critical situations. Note  Failure to switch off the ACC in the situations may be an offence.
