Starter switch & steering lock STARTERSWITCH The starter switch is located to the right of the steering column, and uses the following sequenceof key positions to operate the steering lock, electrical circuits and starter motor. Position ’0’ Steering locked (if key is removed). The fuel filler flap can be opened. Mostlighting circuits are operational, including: park lights, headlights and hazard warning lights. STEERINGCOLUMNLOCK Position ’I’ To unlock the steering columnSteering unlocked. Insert the ignition key FULLY and turn theRadio/cassette/CDplayer, electric windows, starter switch to position ’I’wipers and washers can be operated. To lock the steering columnPosition ’II’ Turn the starter switch to position ’0’ andAll instruments, warning lights and electrical withdraw the key from the starter switch.circuits are operational. Position ’III’ WARNING Starter motor operates. DONOTremovethekeyorturnthestarterReleasethe starter key immediately the engine switch to position ’0’ while the vehicle is instarts (the key will automatically return to motion. Once the steering lock is engaged,position ’II’). it is impossible to steer the vehicle.Note that operation of position ’I’ electrical functions will be interrupted during engine cranking. NOTE:Onautomaticmodels’P’or’N’must be selected before the engine will start. 85
