DEVICES FOR REDUCING DIESEL ENGINE EMISSIONS Oxidising catalytic converter This device converts the pollution substances in the exhaust gas (carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbons and particulate) into harmless substances, thus reducing the smokiness and smell associated with diesel engine exhaust fumes. The catalytic converter consists of a stainless steel case containing a honeycomb ceramic core in which there is precious metal which carries out the catalysing action. Exhaust Gas Recirculation (E.G.R. Cooled) system This system recirculates or reuses part of the exhaust gas in a proportion which varies according to engine operation conditions. When necessary, it is used for the control of nitrogen oxide emissions.
