Steps to take in an emergency579 If your vehicle overheats The following may indicate that your vehicle is overheating. Vehicles without a multi-information display: The high engine cool- ant temperature warning light (P. 492) comes on or a loss of power is experienced. Vehicles with a multi-information display: The engine coolant tem- perature gauge (P. 95) enters the red zone or a loss of power is experienced. Steam comes out from under the hood. Correction procedures 1 Stop the vehicle in a safe place and turn off the air conditioning sys- tem, and then stop the engine. 2 If you see steam: Carefully lift the hood after the steam subsides. If you do not see steam: Carefully lift the hood. 3 After the engine has cooled down sufficiently, inspect the 7 hoses and radiator core (radia- tor) for any leaks. W 1 Radiator hen 2 Cooling fan troub le If a large amount of coolant leaks, immediately contact any arise authorized Toyota dealer or s repairer, or another duly quali- fied and equipped professional.
