1985 Volvo DL, GL and Turbo Reverse gear (R) The detent collar on the gear shift lever must be lifted prior to engaging reverse gear. This prevents inadvertent selection of reverse gear pg. 38 Automatic transmission Shift positions P park R reverse N neutral D drive 2 intermediate 1 low The gear selector can be moved freely between D and 2. Selections of other positions are obtained by depressing the selector knob prior to moving the selector. Depressing the selector knob slightly allows selection of positions N and 1.
