460 8-2. Steps to take in an emergency
Using a flatbed truck
1 Apply the parking brake and turn the power switch off.
Use wheel chocks for all 4 wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
2 Secure the vehicle by strapping
the tires to the deck of the tow
truck as shown.
Emergency towing
If a tow truck is not available in an emergency, your vehicle may be
temporarily towed using cables or chains secured to the emergency
towing eyelets. This should only be attempted on hard surfaced roads
for short distance at under 5 km/h (3 mph).
A driver must be in the vehicle to steer and operate the brakes. The
vehicle’s wheels, drive train, axles, steering and brakes must be in
good condition.
