AutomatictransmiSSion31 'Kick-down' After reachingthe normalfull-throttle position,theacceleratorpedalonautoma- tic transmissioncars can be depressed furtherafterovercomingconsiderablere- sistance. •Inspecialcircumstances,for instance whenovertaking,thiswillenablemaxi- mum accelerationto be obtainedimme- diatelyby selectiontothenextlowergear. Afterthe kick-downhas operated,the nextupwardshiftwilloccuronlywhenthe throttleis easedbackor, if fullthrottleis maintained,at a much higherengine speedthanusual. Whenthe outsidetemperatureis under -15°C (+5°F), we recommendretaining positi061aftera coldstart,e.g. at-25°C (-13°F) for a distanceof up to 3 km (2 miles). For towingaway,tow-startingand star- ting with leadsfrom anothervehicle's battery,see 'MINORDEFECTS'. •
