Tailgate CLOSINGTHETAILGATE Raise the lower tailgate first and close firmly. Then lower and close the upper tailgate. WARNING Donotdrivewith the tailgate open; poisonous carbon monoxide fumes will enter the vehicle. Alwayscheckthat the tailgate is secure before driving and before leaving the vehicle unattended. OPENINGTHETAILGATE With the vehicle unlocked, press the release button once to release the upper tailgate. NOTE:Thereisahandlebuiltinto the lower edge of the upper tailgate to assist in opening and closing. With the upper tailgate open, press the release button again to release the lower tailgate, which can then be lowered to the horizontal position. NOTE:Thetailgatecannot be opened if the vehicle battery is flat or disconnected. If this occurs, access to the loadspace can only be achieved by folding the rear seats from inside the vehicle (see ’Seats’). 21
