Changing a wheel 191 Observethefollowingwhenraisingthevehi- cle: R makesureyouhaveasuitablejackand wheelwrench.Ifusedincorrectly,thejack could tip over with the vehicle raised. For further information inquire at any smart center. R the jack is designed only to raise and hold the vehicle for a short time while a wheel is being changed. It is not suited for per- forming maintenance work under the vehi- cle. Steel wheel with hub cap R avoid changing the wheel on uphill and XVehicleswithsteelwheelsandhubcaps: downhill slopes. carefully reach into two of the hub cap R before raising the vehicle, secure it from openings and remove the hub cap. rollingawaybyapplyingtheparkingbrake and inserting wheel chocks. Never disen- gagetheparkingbrakewhilethevehicleis raised. R the jack must be placed on a firm, flat and non-slip surface. On a loose surface, a large, flat load-bearing underlay must be tires. used. On a slippery surface, a non-slip underlay must be used, e.g. rubber mats. R and donotusewoodenblocksorsimilarobjects asajackunderlay.Otherwise,thejackwill not be able to achieve its load-bearing capacity due to the restricted height. R Steel wheel with hub cap Wheels makesurethatthedistancebetweenthe underside of the tires and the ground does XVehicleswithsteelwheelsandhubcaps: >> not exceed 1.2 in (3 cm). remove the hub cap. R never place your hands and feet under the raised vehicle. R do not lie under the vehicle. R donotstarttheenginewhenthevehicleis raised. R do not open or close a door or the tailgate while the vehicle is raised. R makesurethatnopersonsarepresentinthe vehicle when the vehicle is raised. !Thejackisdesignedexclusivelyfor jacking up the vehicle at the jacking points. Otherwise, your vehicle could be XUsingwheelwrench:,loosentheboltson damaged. the wheel you wish to change by about one full turn. Do not unscrew the bolts com- pletely. Z
