MANUAL TRANSMISSION TRANSFER GEARBOX
CAUTIONS
Never attempt to engage reverse gear
whilst the vehicle is in forward motion.
This may result in serious transmission
damage and costly repairs.
Do not rest your hand on the gear lever
while driving - this may cause premature
wear to the gear selector mechanism.
Do not rest your foot on the clutch pedal.
Keep your foot clear of the clutch pedal,
except when changing gear.
The transmission consists of a six-speed main
gearbox and a two-speed (high and low)
transfer box. A centre differential in the transfer
box distributes the drive to the front and rear
axles, providing permanent four-wheel drive.

The transfer gearbox is used to select the high
or low range gears. It also has a neutral
position between high and low.
High range
High range should be used for all normal road
driving and also for off-road driving across dry,
level terrain.
E85233 Low range
The gear lever is spring loaded, and when in Low range should only be used in situations
neutral sits between third and fourth gear where low speed manoeuvring is necessary
positions. Extra pressure will be required to (e.g. reversing a trailer or negotiating a
move across to reverse. boulder-strewn river bed). Also use low range
for more extreme off-road conditions, where
progress in high range cannot be maintained.
Do not attempt to use low range for normal
road driving.
